Superga became established in 1911, when the company Anonima per Azioni Walter Martiny started producing waterproof boots with rubber soles for agriculture and other footwear with vulcanized rubber soles. By 1934, Superga® had many models used in sports such as tennis, basketball and sailing. In 1951, the merger with Pirelli led to major improvements in production. The most popular model, the 2750, has been produced since 1925 and is the first tennis shoe to be made with a rubber sole.
